OOOPStudio, together with Carlo Cerri, curated the video scenography, reinterpreting the story with a contemporary approach. Through the use of technology, the studio transformed the scene into a poetic and dynamic environment, capable of evolving and adapting to the emotions and narrative movements of the choreography. Each projection was conceived as a visual extension of the story, creating atmospheres that range from the mystical to the dramatic, from inner conflict to reconciliation. The environments transform fluidly, moving from desert landscapes and dreamlike spaces to intricate abstract geometries, emphasizing the contrasts between King Shahriyar’s power and Scheherazade’s intellectual strength.

“The Fate of Phaeton” is the title of the video projection realized for the Cathedral of Modena, inspired by the Greek myth of the Son of the Sun, who drove his father’s chariot up to the sky to illuminate the Earth and then, striked by Zeus’ lightning, fell into the river Eridano, the Po.

“The most terrible of all terrible things is man”
It is a journey told by light, where the real and the imaginary overlap and chase each other, stimulated by a real technological short circuit.
The perception of the beholder is stimulated, absorbed and mocked by the deception of sight, by the illusion of real images that go beyond reality.
A material as hard as the stone of the Modena Cathedral, already molded in architectural and figurative forms, abandons its hardness and is transformed
Do humans need humans?
Digital humanism in the 21st century
In this edition of the Fête des Lumières 2021 – 8Lyon the theme reflects on the evolution of the relationship between human beings and technologies throughout history, in all sectors, including (new media) art.
So nowadays everyone is using technology, but do humans need humans or technology more?
Once again in collaboration with Carlo Cerri, and commissioned by the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, OOOPStudio designed the videos for the scenographies of Madina, a ballet show set to music by Fabio Vacchi, based on the original novel “La ragazza che non voleva morire” by Emmanuelle Villepin, starring Antonella Albano, prima ballerina of La Scala, and Roberto Bolle in the role of the villain.
The result is an original production with a contemporary aesthetic, designed by technology, but also rich in realism – albeit digitized – obtained through the use of natural elements existing in the current world, leaving very little space for abstraction which, where present, is reported in a minimalist, essential, clean way.
Where man cannot assert himself, there is an uncontaminated place, always present but forgotten. The wood, sacred and vital, accompanies us eternally like a silent witness, breathing next to us and going on with its productive cycle, even when, as the night falls, the city stops. Through every fibre and every inhabitant, animal or plant, nature keeps operating, making the magic of awakening possible.
